One of the biggest parts of my life here at Penn State is ROTC. I am a member of the Penn State Nittany Lion Battalion Army ROTC program. For those of you that do not know, ROTC stands for Reserve Officer Training Corps. Through ROTC, I will commission as a Second Lieutenant in either the Active Army, the National Guard, or the Army Reserves. I was awarded the 4 year national scholarship in high school, and I am currently one of the few contracted freshmen at Penn State. This means that I have already signed a contract to serve in the Army when I graduate. In return, they pay for my tuition.
As a freshman, I am a member of a squad with very few responsibilities. My main mission is to learn the ropes so I will able to take on leadership positions later. Next year, I plan on trying out for the Ranger Challenge Team. This team competes in various physically and mentally challenging events against other schools in order to prove their versatility and toughness. I am looking forward to trying out next semester.
